I paint a variety of subjects, using a multiple of media-Acrylic on Canvas, Watercolor and Pastels. Acrylic is my favorite media, because it can be used as Oil of Watercolor and there are endless techniques that can be used to achieve desired results. I believe that I am a part of the media and a tool used by a spiritual higher power and the canvas. My work is a combination of realism and sure realism (bordering on abstract).
The first indication that I had a talent for art was when I was in grade school and I was selected for a program at the University of Nebraska for gifted young artists. The program was to train selected youth identified to get a head start in the arts and instruction was presented by the University staff. I was also becoming a pretty good a athlete and was encouraged by family to pursue more manly things like sports. I did and gave up art totally for over 40 years. I was successful in sports and "Manly Jobs", all with honors.
In 1992 after life changes, I began pursing art as a hobby and self taught myself with a lot of help from other artist friends. The hobby grew into a passion for art and I read a lot, practiced a lot and joined art groups to learn more. In 1994 TR Neal Studios was opened in Canon City, Colorado. The business supported my art by doing custom framing. In 2006 after having success in the art field entering numberous shows and sales improving, I gave up custom framing and went strictly with art. Since then, I have moved to Omaha, Nebraska and continue business as TR Neal Studios (Free Spirit Gallery). I now do regional shows (listed below) and sales on TR Neal Studios Web Site.
